New iHangy iPhone 5S Case with Lanyard Necklace Righting Top Apple Smartphone Wrongs

iHangy case

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 24, 2014

Owning an iPhone 5S can be an expensive proposition. Therefore, anything a consumer can do to protect their smartphone investment is worth making the effort. Apple accessories manufacture iHangy’s latest innovation, the iPhone 5S Case with Lanyard Necklace, is helping iPhone 5S owners rectify two of the biggest wrongs they are making with their smartphone.

According to a recent Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/06/doing-wrong-iphone_n_4732014.htmlarticle) article, there are nine things iPhone 5S users are doing wrong with their smartphone. Chief among these no-nos are “Using it outside in extreme weather” and “Walking around with your iPhone in your hand.” On the former front, the newspaper explains, “Your iPhone isn’t meant to withstand super hot or super cold temperatures.” On the latter, it warns, “iPhones are a hot commodity on the black market and are a huge target for thieves.” The new iPhone 5S Case with Lanyard Necklace resolves both these issues by protecting the smartphone from extreme temperatures and by keeping it secure around the neck where would-be robbers can’t get at it.

For more information on how an iPhone 5S Case with Lanyard Necklace can protect the iPhone 5S from harsh weather conditions and thieves, contact iHangy’s Palki Kochar. To learn more about the new smartphone case, visit the manufacturer on the web at http://www.ihangy.com/category-s/1842.htm.

Oakland Zoo, CamZone Networks, and Ventana Wildlife Society Partner to Create a New Live-Streaming-Webcam for Viewing Upcoming California Condor Release into the Wild

California Condor Flying Over the Coast

Big Sur, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2014

On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 10:00am Pacific Standard time, four California condors will be released into the wild for the first time by Ventana Wildlife Society biologists. People around the world will have the ability to watch these endangered birds in real-time transition from captivity to life in the wild via a live-streaming webcam in Big Sur, California. “A typical condor release is largely uneventful as we want the birds to comfortably and slowly make this transition successfully. The actual release itself is just the opening of the enclosure door and is the kind of thing that is best watched over a period of days and even weeks since it is up to the condors what they do next” said Ventana Wildlife Society Executive Director, Kelly Sorenson.

This new viewing experience was made possible through collaboration between Ventana Wildlife Society and Oakland Zoo, with funding provided by FedEx and made possible through CamZone Networks. “Camzone was built on the popularity of animal cams, so partnering to help save the California Condors was a great opportunity for our team to give back,” said Steve Walker, Business Development at Camzone Network. “Getting a camera on the Condor release pen, in the wild was by far the most complicated job we have ever heard of. We are ecstatic with the finished product and honored to be part of such an amazing project. We are dedicated to continuing the support the Condors with our commercial free hosting and future projects to help bring awareness to the Condors plight.”

The Live-Streaming Webcam can be viewed at both Oakland Zoo and Ventana Wildlife Society’s websites:

http://www.oaklandzoo.org/Condor_Cam.php

http://www.ventanaws.org/condor_cam/

One of the birds being released is condor #646 who suffered a broken wing in 2013 while still a chick. At just two months old, this female condor was recovered from the nest and taken to the Los Angeles Zoo for treatment. She is now ready to be released less than a mile from her parents and the nest she was born into. “Conservation is a top priority at Oakland Zoo and being part of this project is exciting because we are directly involved with conveying the plight of the California condor to the public,” said Nancy Filippi, Managing Director. “This new camera and live release will give the public a chance to learn more about birds like condor #646, and stories like hers help people have an emotional connection to saving this species from extinction.” The other three condors being released are SB#s 631 (male), 650 (male), and 652 (male). 646 and 631 were born in spring 2011 and are almost three-years-old. 650 and 652 are nearly two-years-old and were born in 2012. This particular condor release is significant because eleven birds in Central California were lost in 2013 due to lead poisoning and other causes. As of as of January 31, 2014, there are a total of 410 living condors, of which 232 are in the wild. Fifty-eight condors reside in Central California. Besides the release site in Big Sur, condors are also being released in Baja California, Mexico, Southern California, and in Arizona near the Grand Canyon.

This new webcam along with the webcam installed in October of 2013, are tools that have transformed how field crews at Ventana Wildlife Society monitor the health of condors on a daily basis. “It can be stressful keeping track of a handful of birds when you know the entire wild population in California rests at just 128 individuals, but the Condor Cams allow us to do our job more efficiently and effectively,” said Joe Burnett, Senior Biologist at Ventana Wildlife Society. Through radio tags and webcams like this one, biologists attempt to determine the status of every condor each day, which is critically important given how few condors exist. This daily status information is used for ongoing research projects focused on condor survivorship, breeding success, and other vital statistics.

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA CONDOR:

In 1987, the last wild California condor was taken into captivity to join the twenty-six remaining condors, in an attempt to bolster the population through a captive breeding program. Through the effort of California zoos and the Ventana Wildlife Society there are now about 232 California condors in the wild. For more than twenty years, Ventana Wildlife Society has made it a mission to save the bird from extinction by regularly trapping and treating condors suffering from high blood levels of lead. Prompt treatment has saved the lives of several birds in the flock. They monitor nests to ensure the greatest protection possible from potential threats to productivity. In 2013, Jerry Brown, Governor of California signed into law a phase out of lead ammunition throughout the state for all hunting. Lead from spent ammunition is the most significant problem for California condors and this new law gives hope for condor survival in the future; however, the new law, AB711, does not go into effect until 2019.

Being actively involved in a conservation partnership with Ventana Wildlife Society is very important to the Oakland Zoo. To learn more about this partnership go to http://youtu.be/7Bhm3k_OINA

SecurEnvoy facilitates remote working for staff at city councils and municipal authorities

Authenticate your way

(PRWEB UK) 17 March 2014

From law enforcement officials to highway surveyors – staff at public authorities often work away from the office. As a result, they need to access city or municipal networks remotely in order to document their assignments. Employees at many such authorities log in via two-factor authentication and identify themselves using dedicated hardware tokens. However, with this approach, the procurement and maintenance costs relating to the tokens can rapidly escalate. An alternative is offered by the manufacturer SecurEnvoy, which has developed a tokenless two-factor authentication method. With this, staff working remotely can easily and efficiently log into networks using devices such as smartphones.

Traditional tokens, such as smart cards, are used in addition to login details in order to provide access authorisation in many companies and organisations. However, the implementation of such methods is often lengthy and replacing defective tokens can become expensive. SecurEnvoy enables companies and organisations to make use of smartphones, laptops or tablets as authentication devices. One of the methods from the SecurAccess solution is to send a dynamically generated password to the mobile devices of employees via SMS or e-mail. The password received is then combined with the user’s login information to enable tokenless two-factor authentication. Staff of public authorities can thus quickly and conveniently access IT networks. Examples such as the London Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea illustrate the advantages of tokenless two-factor authentication.

Reduced operating costs

The borough on the western side of the British capital employs thousands of civil servants to take care of the needs of approximately 150,000 inhabitants. In this context, more and more employees are accessing the administration’s main network remotely. For many years, non-office staff carried with them a dedicated, physical token, which generated access codes for network authentication purposes. However, this method proved to be time-consuming and insecure. Tokens were frequently lost or left behind with laptops and the constant need to replace them led to increased operating costs. The management found a better way with a tokenless approach and implemented a tokenless two-factor authentication procedure based on SecurAccess.

“The borough had already equipped more than 1,000 employees with mobile phones. We therefore wanted to make even greater use of this investment and save on the cost of dedicated tokens,” explains Russell Hookway, Network & Telecommunications Manager at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. “The good value for money offered was another reason why we really wanted to use the SecurEnvoy technology.”

Security concerns dispelled

The City Council of the Scottish city of Dundee, with a population of 140,000, also successfully uses tokenless two-factor authentication. The City Council’s aim was to address security concerns associated with location-independent network access by employees. In this regard, the City Council is subject to the requirements of the Scottish Government’s Code of Conduct and Compliance (CoCo) for local authorities.

“We wanted to improve the security of our virtual private networks and liked the easy and secure network access process offered by an SMS-based method,” explains Graeme Quinn, IT Team Leader of Dundee City Council. “Almost everyone has a mobile phone nowadays so overall costs can be managed. SecurAccess is a quick and easy solution to security issues related to remote access.”

More rapid processing of requests

In the Dutch province of Gelderland, tokenless two-factor authentication replaced the use of smart cards. Often the cards did not work, which resulted in many calls to the help desk from remote workers and also led to delays in carrying out requests. Card readers are also an issue when people work from home or from personal devices so combined with the issues of deploying certificates to the cards and the usability of the cards themselves, so organisations are finding it quicker, easier and more cost effective to use a tokenless alternative. The public authority contacted SecurEnvoy via a Dutch IT provider and opted for the SecurAccess solution. The positive effects soon became tangible: The processing time for individual remote requests was reduced from almost 50 minutes to about 30 seconds.

To find out more about the SecurEnvoy method, you can register at http://www.securenvoy.com/trial.aspx for a free live demonstration.

About SecurEnvoy plc:

SecurEnvoy is the creator of patented tokenless solutions for two-factor authentication. Millions of users globally already benefit from the fastest mobile authentication process that doesn’t require a token. It uses common devices like mobile and smartphones, tablets and laptops to provide the passcode for authentication. Even without a mobile or internet connection the user can retrieve the code via voice call or identification with the One Swipe technology that relies on a QR code scan. The product range of the company based in London (UK), Frankfurt (D), New York and San Diego (USA) includes the SecurAccess solution. The administration tools can be easily integrated into existing IT infrastructures and allow administrators to add up to 100,000 users per hour. SC Magazine awarded the solution ‘Best Buy’, this compliments being awarded leading visionary in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant. SecurEnvoy has a customer base in all verticals including banking, finance, insurance, government, manufacturing, marketing, retail, telecoms, charity, law and construction. The authentication expert collaborates with partners such as AEP, Astaro, Cisco, Checkpoint, Citrix, Juniper, F5, Palo Alto, Sophos, etc. See http://www.SecurEnvoy.com for further information.

Consumer Reports Reveals the Best Used Cars and Ones to Avoid

YONKERS, NY (PRWEB) March 13, 2014

With prices at historic highs – even for models with high mileage and seemingly excessive wear – and with so many vehicles from which to choose, shopping for a used car can be a challenge. To help Americans choose the best used car for their money, Consumer Reports compiled a Best & Worst Used Cars list for model years 2004 through 2013.

The full report is available in Consumer Reports’ Annual Auto Issue, which is on newsstands now, and at the 2014 Autos Spotlight page on ConsumerReports.org. Highlighted are the best small cars, sedans, and SUVs available in four price ranges: from $ 10,000 or less up to $ 25,000. Each performed well in CR’s testing when new and had above-average reliability for the model years shown, based on CR’s Annual Auto Survey. And all models came standard with electronic stability control (ESC).

“When shopping for a used car, it’s really important to find a car that drives well and will hold up down the road. Our guide makes it easy for shoppers to choose a great used car by highlighting the best small cars, sedans, and SUVs in four different price ranges,” said Rik Paul, auto editor, Consumer Reports.

In the $ 15,000-$ 20,000 price range the following cars made Consumer Reports’ list of best used cars:

SMALL CARS: 2012-13 Hyundai Elantra and 2011-13 Subaru Impreza

These are as roomy and as comfortable as larger, more expensive cars. The Elantra combines nimble and secure handling with a fairly comfortable ride. The Impreza sedan and hatchback both offer standard all-wheel drive along with sporty handling and a great ride.

SEDANS: 2011-12 Toyota Camry, 2010-11 Toyota Camry Hybrid, and 2008 Acura TL

Both the four- and six-cylinder Camry deliver impressive fuel economy along with a comfortable ride, a roomy cabin, and superb reliability. For even better gas mileage, the Camry Hybrid gets 34 mpg overall and 41 on the highway. A sportier alternative is the Acura TL, which has long been one of our favorite sedans to drive.

SUVs: 2006-07 Lexus RX and 2009-10 Subaru Forester (nonturbo)

The Lexus RX is comfortable, nicely finished, and extremely reliable. The hybrid version gets good fuel economy. The Forester is more utilitarian but handles well and has an excellent ride. Access is easy, and the view out is the best among SUVs.

The Consumer Reports used cars to avoid list includes 2004 to 2013 models that have had multiple years of much-worse-than-average overall reliability, according to CR’s Annual Auto Survey. Among the more than twenty models that made the list are the BMW X5 (6-cyl.), Chrysler Town & Country, Ford Fiesta, and Volkswagen Beetle.

For more information on used cars pick up a copy of Consumer Reports’ April Annual Auto Issue, which is available on newsstands now wherever magazines are sold, or visit the 2014 Autos Spotlight page on ConsumerReports.org.
