Kentucky Drunk Driving Accident Lawyer Mat A. Slechter Comments On Fatal Head-On Collision Caused By Wrong-Way Driver

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) July 05, 2013

Louisville, Kentucky police recently filed murder charges against a man who was allegedly drunk when he drove the wrong way on I-265 and killed a man driving the right direction, an extremely serious accident that demands an extremely strong reaction, according to personal injury lawyer Mat A. Slechter of the Slechter Law Firm, PLLC, in Louisville, KY.

“Drinking and driving sadly remains one of the most common – and serious – types of car accidents in America,” said Slechter, who represents people injured in accidents and families whose loved ones were killed in accidents. “The dangers of drunk driving have been well documented for many decades. Unfortunately, many people still don’t seem to get the message. When people drink and drive, the consequences can often be deadly.”

The fatal accident on I-265 occurred on June 6 at 4:30 a.m. near the Shelbyville Road exit, according to WHAS 11 News (“1 killed in crash involving wrong-way driver,” June 7, 2013). According to police interviewed by WHAS 11 News, David Batts, 34, was driving a white truck in the wrong direction in the southbound lane when he hit a car driving the right direction. The crash caused the vehicle driving the right direction to flip onto its roof.

Police charged Batts with murder, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license, WHAS 11 News reported. According to the arrest report as reported on by WHAS 11 News, Batts admitted to drinking at the Hikes Point Lounge before the auto accident. Batts had a .161 Blood Alcohol Level at the time of the accident.

“Drunk driving accidents can have tragic consequences,” Slechter said. “In general, if you are injured, you should seek medical attention immediately and continue to follow-up with your doctor. Your injuries could worsen, and your visits to your doctor may prove valuable in a personal injury lawsuit. If you lost a loved one in a drunk driving accident, you may need the help of an experienced attorney to protect your rights. While no money can truly compensate for the loss of someone, families can be financially devastated due to the negligence of drunk drivers.

“A personal injury lawyer can help pursue compensation and closure for victims of negligence. The attorney also can help send a strong message that reckless behavior will not be tolerated in our society,” Slechter said.
